Programs and Services
55 Kip Center has established itself as a community focal point where older adults can come together for services and activities that reflect their diverse needs and interests, enhance their dignity, support their independence and encourage their involvement in and with the center and the community.
Transportation is available on the Rutherford mini-bus for Rutherford Residents. The bus leaves the center every ½ hour. Transportation is also available for Rutherford residents for the Saturday program with one pick up and one return time. Membership also includes free parking on the third floor of the parking garage.
Health and Wellness
The center offers several fitness classes that make exercise fun and beneficial including, Aerobics, Chair Aerobics, Body Strengthening, For Men Only, T’ai Chi Chih, Arthritis Foundation Exercise, Dance, and Yoga.
Blood pressure screenings and consultation are provided at from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 the second and fourth Tuesday of the month.
A nutritious, hot lunch is served daily at the center. Kip Café features a full course home cooked meal on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Light breakfast is available on weekdays. Reservations are required and should be made in advance. The cost is a $3 suggested donation.
Workshops and lectures are offered on a wide variety of health and wellness topics to encourage and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Currently, the center sponsors four support groups - A Caregiver's Support Group, a Bereavement Support Group, an Alzheimer's Support Group and an Aphasia Support Group. Each offers support to family caregivers as well as our members.
The center's Chaplain offers spiritual guidance to those at the center as well as center members whom may be homebound. His weekly discussion of the Bible incorporates Biblical teachings into today's world.
Education and Recreation
Kip Klasses, our educational component offers members the chance to continue to live and learn. From two levels of computer classes to drawing, creative writing and current events, older adults are constantly challenged and stimulated by the wide variety of classes.
Quilting, knitting, crocheting, and crafts are just some of the ways members relax and enjoy the time together. Bridge, other card and board games are also part of the weekly schedule. Saturday afternoons showcase quality entertainment for Kip Center members while Saturday mornings often has guest speakers about important issues for older adults.
Information and Assistance
55 Kip Center staff is prepared to address your concerns and answer questions regarding available resources in the community for older adults and their families. Referrals to other agencies may be made when appropriate.
